With encouragement from friends and colleagues, I’m delving into a world that I’ve been avoiding for several years: blogs.
After graduating from Bowdoin last spring and delivering one of the commencement speeches (Moving Forward with the Common Good & Bowdoin), I spent one more summer on Martha’s Vineyard and ended up in Aspen, Colorado cooking by night and skiing by day. That’s when I heard about Mano en Mano (Hand in Hand), the non-profit organization that I’m now in charge of. So I packed my bags once again and moved back to a state I had never even been to before I started at Bowdoin. I’m excited to be back in Maine and start doing some work that is truly urgent.
As Executive Director of a small nonprofit, I’m in charge of development day-to-day operations, from proposal writing to site supervisor of a construction project to receptionist to case worker. Each day brings new surprises, new challenges, and new rewards.
The purpose of this blog is to offer insight into what I actually do and hopefully receive feedback on how I can do it more efficiently and effectively. I look forward to hearing from you.
